AllSouth AllStar Breck

Meet Breck, the newest member of our Mortgage Department. She joined AllSouth in 2019 at our Newberry branch and has since advanced to her current position as a mortgage loan originator. Read on to learn more about her role and the positive impact she's making on our credit union and our members.

How did you get your start at AllSouth?

I was working in the childcare industry and handling bookkeeping for a company in Newberry. I wanted a career that combined my passion of helping people with my interest in finance. That led me to apply for a teller position at the Newberry branch in 2019.

What motivated you to apply for and ultimately step into the role as AllSouth’s mortgage loan originator?

Once I gained a better understanding of how the banking industry works as a teller, I wanted to challenge myself further by attending member service representative classes so I could support members in my community on a deeper level. I enjoyed having that one-on-one time with them, and those relationships motivated me to keep growing. I had the opportunity to cross-train in lending and really enjoyed the loan process and seeing how a loan could help open doors for members. I was able to assist members with mortgage applications while working at Newberry, and it was rewarding to be able to help them achieve homeownership. This naturally led me to pursue the mortgage loan originator role.

"Breck has always gone above and beyond for our members. She's adamant on finding the perfect product for each unique scenario and making our members feel at home while completing the process. I was fortunate to work with Breck and watch her build member relationships in Newberry. Although she's moved to our Mortgage Department, I know she's building those same relationships and helping members find the perfect product for all their mortgage needs now!"

-Erin, Branch Manager Newberry

How would you describe your current position?

I work in the community to build relationships with attorneys, real estate agents, builders, appraisers, and homebuyers. I share information about our mortgage options, rates, and processes, assist with applications for purchases or refinances, and collaborate closely with our residential lending officers to ensure a smooth and positive mortgage experience.

What does a normal workday or week look like for you?

I'm responsible for managing my own schedule and setting appointments with prospective members and partners. I plan my days so I can meet with multiple contacts efficiently. During these visits, I answer questions and provide insight into how we do things at AllSouth. We're able to provide mortgages for anyone purchasing in the state of South Carolina, so I travel throughout the state sharing information about AllSouth.

Buying a home is a big milestone. How do you make the process less overwhelming and more enjoyable for your members?

Buying a home is a major milestone so I focus on making the experience feel clear, supported, and stress‑free. I serve as a direct point of contact for our members, guiding them through each step of the loan process and answering questions along the way. By staying closely connected with everyone involved, I help ensure consistent communication and a smooth closing. With a focus on clear communication and timely follow-up, I'm able to address any potential issues early and prevent delays. My goal is to deliver a seamless experience from application to closing. And because we believe ongoing service is just as important as closing day, your mortgage remains with AllSouth for the life of the loan.

How is working in a branch different from going out and obtaining business?

In the branch, business comes to you. Members visit with a specific need in mind, whether that is a product or a service. You can usually complete their request fairly quickly and then move on to helping the next member. As a mortgage loan originator, I am the one going out and asking for business. I'm asking people not only to take the time to hear what I have to say but also to consider choosing AllSouth for their mortgage needs. It can be a much bigger challenge, but I enjoy that.

"Breck has been an amazing addition to the Mortgage Department.  It has been a pleasure getting to know her, and she has navigated her new position as mortgage loan originator effortlessly.  Her positive attitude and strong work ethic make her someone who both our employees and members can always count on.  Her dedication to providing exceptional member service is evident in every interaction, and she consistently goes above and beyond to ensure members feel valued and supported."

-Katie, Senior Residential Loan Officer

What are your goals for this year?

My main goal is to grow the business in our department. I want to continue building strong relationships so that when people are deciding who to trust with their mortgage, they feel confident choosing us. I'm the first person at AllSouth in this specific role, so I am laying the foundation for years to come. I hope to be successful enough that we eventually need to bring on a second mortgage loan originator.
