Between food, drinks, decorations, and the little extras, hosting costs can add up. However, a memorable gathering doesn’t require an elaborate menu or a house full of new decorations. With a spending plan and a few thoughtful choices, you can create a welcoming celebration that fits your budget. Here are five ways to get started. ## **1. Set Your Party Budget Before Making Plans** Before sending invitations, decide how much you can spend without taking money away from bills, everyday expenses, or other holiday plans. Then divide that amount among food, drinks, decorations, and supplies. Leave some room for overlooked items, such as ice, napkins, or extra ingredients. Your budget can help you decide how many people to invite and what kind of gathering to host. If a full dinner stretches your spending limit, consider an afternoon get-together with snacks or an evening of desserts and warm drinks instead. Let guests know what you’ll be serving so they can plan accordingly. ## **2. Keep the Menu Manageable** You don’t need to offer everyone’s favorite dish to make guests feel welcome. Choose a few foods you enjoy preparing, and build your shopping list around them. A pot of soup with bread, a baked pasta dish with salad, or a snack table can give your gathering a clear focus without a long list of ingredients.
