Like a boomerang, we’re back with our volunteer program for 2020. Through this program, our team members are offered opportunities throughout the year to volunteer with local non-profit organizations in the Midlands area. We kicked off this year’s program by volunteering at Transitions. Transitions is a place where the journey home begins for many men and women who are struggling with homelessness. It’s the largest homeless center in the Midlands, and they work diligently to help equip the people they serve to transition to stable and permanent housing.

Transitions opened in 2011 and has helped more than 2,473 homeless people stabilize their lives and secure permanent housing. They provide more than just housing. They also offer three hot meals a day to those in need. Meals are served year-round, including holidays, providing over 1.6 million meals to date. Finding a hot and healthy meal while struggling with homelessness can be difficult. For some, receiving a meal at Transitions may be the only meal they have that day.

On February 19, our AllSouth team served 245 meals to those in need.  Serving our community is a rewarding experience for our team members, and they appreciate the opportunities offered to serve.  This is what Debbie had to say about her experience, "From the moment I walked in, I had a wonderful experience. I admit that at first, it was a little overwhelming because I didn't know what to expect. As we began serving meals, everyone was so appreciative, and they thanked us for being there. I would love to help serve again in the future."  Also, team member, Lisa was inspired by her act of service, and this is what she shared about her time at transitions, " It was a great experience to come together with other team members to feed those in need. I will definitely look for more ways to give back, including volunteering with Transitions again."

We’re always looking for ways to serve our community. We strive to make a difference and support causes that reflect our shared values of giving to those suffering from homelessness, hunger, or family crisis and those supporting our military.
